What started out as a charity fundraiser at the Housing Works Bookstore & Café in SoHo has turned into a new album.

Bjork and the Dirty Projectors performed a handful of original tracks for a crowd of approximately 250. Event, orchestrated by Housing Works board member (and StereoGum contributor) Brandon Stosuy, took place April 8, 2009 - the album was just released.

(StereoGum has a detailed account of how the event came to be.)

Housing Works is a non-profit org that provides services for homeless men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS.

Video below is from the original performance - Dirty Projectors' singer Dave Longstreth also explains the origination of the album's title and concept. (It has something to do with co-band member Amber Coffman whale watching in Northern California.)

For the official recording, the vocals were cleaned up a bit...and this time there's no kid screaming for popcorn (or whatever it was he wanted). Check out 'On and Ever Onward':
